Established in 1983, bringing hope, faith, and service to East Tambaram
Our Mission
St. Sebastian’s Church, Arul Nagar is a vibrant Roman Catholic parish serving the faithful of Irumbuliyur East, Tambaram. We strive to be a welcoming sanctuary of faith, love, and service, uniting families in common worship and local outreach.
Originally established under the Archdiocese of Madras–Mylapore and currently in communion with the Diocese of Chinglepet, our parish continues to stand as a beacon of Christian hope.
PARISH HISTORY
CHURCH FOUNDED
Spiritual journey began in Arul Nagar as a local sub-station to coordinate services for Catholic families in East Tambaram.
DIOCESAN TRANSITION
Transferred under the newly erected Diocese of Chinglepet to support local pastoral growth and community building.
BUILDING SANCTUARY
Laid the foundation stone for a brand new, larger modern cathedral building to house the rapidly expanding community of parishioners.
NEW CHURCH BUILT & ANNOUNCED AS A PARISH
The grand consecration of the newly built parish church sanctuary and its official elevation to an independent Catholic parish.
Life History of Saint Sebastian
Saint Sebastian was a brave Christian martyr who lived during the 3rd century in Rome. He served as a soldier in the Roman army under Emperor Diocletian. Despite being a soldier, he secretly supported persecuted Christians and strengthened their faith.
When the emperor discovered that Sebastian was a Christian, he ordered him to be executed by arrows. Sebastian survived the attack and continued preaching courageously. Later, he was martyred for his unwavering faith in Christ.
Saint Sebastian is remembered as a symbol of courage, faith, sacrifice, and devotion. He is honored as the patron saint of athletes, soldiers, and people seeking protection from suffering and illness.

Flag Hoisting
St. Sebastian Annual Feast celebration commences with the traditional flag raising ceremony.
Eucharistic Feast
Solemn high mass and holy devotionals on the eve of the parish feast day.
Car Procession & Feast Day
Grand festive procession carrying the decorated chariot of St. Sebastian through local streets.
Monthly Novena
Special novena mass and prayers dedicated to Saint Sebastian, celebrated on the 20th of every month.
Ash Wednesday
Commencement of the holy season of Lent with distribution of ashes.
Easter Sunday
Resurrection of the Lord. Celebratory services with the Palm Sunday (30 Mar), Holy Thursday (2 Apr), and Good Friday (3 Apr) devotions.
